Golf

Like any other sport, to play a game properly, you should be geared up correctly and also have a genuine interest in it. Golf is a strategic game where just a strongly built body would not suffice. The most essential part of golf is patience, it has been said that one person can find golf relaxing, while another individual might think it's the most stressful sport in the universe, and I personally bImagescaz5yvueelieve that you could possibly memorize half the dictionary by the time a group could finish the first hole.

Golf has woven itself in the silk of the elite and high-end businessmen; one has to shell out huge sums on the equipment, clothing and of course the green of the golf course. These have kept it away from the reach of common man, and many relate it as an acronym for Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden! Nevertheless, it's one of the most popular games, given that there are thousands of golf courses all around the world!

Basically the aim is to hit the ball in to a series of holes in the minimum possible strokes. This might seem easy, but hold that thought. The number of strokes you need to hit one hole is your par, and a round consists of 18 holes. The holes have teeing area around them, including rough sideways, fairways and well mowed green area around them. Apart from these there are these barriers like water, sand traps etc called as bunkers, not something you would like. These are here in the course to make the game more difficult for the players. You would not have had trouble with these things while playing with your Nintendo Wii, learning to play this game of real golf can be harder than you may actually think.

People say golf is played by etiquettes than rules, however, there are few basic one's, "play the ball as it lies", "play the course as you find it", and "if you cannot do either, do what is fair". There are several types of shots like tee shot, fairway shot, bunker shot, puts, pitch, flop, chip and a golf swing. Golf swing is the most complex one, as it requires complete perfection to get it right. Golfers use wide stance for long shots and a narrow stance for close shots, in order to maintain balance. Proper body coordination is important for a correct swing. Some terms used in golf are, "bridle" which a score is gained under par on a hole. Bogie, a score of one above par on a hole and a double bogie and triple bogie are two and three above par hole. Eagle, is two scores under a par hole. If a player puts the ball into the hole from a tee shot it is known as "hole in one" or an "ace". If a player is less competent than his opponent, a method of equalizing is adopted by allowing a certain number of strokes to the less skilful player and this is known as "handicap". Lie, a position of the ball when it lies on the course after it is hit.

There are two types of games in a golf competition, Match Play and Stroke Play; In Match Play golfer or a team hitting the ball in to the hole in minimum numbers of shots win that hole, that way a player or a team winning most number of holes wins the game.  The game is usually decided when a player has won more holes than the remaining holes. If the team happens to have equal number of hole, then the holes are halved and the game ends up as a tie, the game then continues and the team or player who wins the first hole will be the winner. In Stroke Play, played for 72 holes in four rounds, the player who takes minimum number of total strokes is the winner.

Before you ever even lift a club it's important to develop a good mental composure. Be positive, stay focused and visualize your shot before you hit the ball. And the most important thing is to enjoy the game and of course your time in the open fresh air!
