Gleneagles 2018 - Men & Women Will Compete Together

Gleneagles August 2018 - The European Golf Team Championships

From August 8-12 2018 the inaugural European Golf Team Championships will be held at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary course. This event has the potential to be something of a paradigm shift within the golfing world. Mixed teams of players from both the European Tour and the Ladies European Tour will compete for equal prize money. The event is part of a wider sporting championship, the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

The field will be divided equally between male and female golf professionals. There will be equal prize money in both the Men's and Women's Team match play Championship and in the Mixed Team Championship, a European first, through 18 holes of foursomes.

16 teams of two players will represent their countries in the Men's and Women's Team events. They will then combine into groups of four, each group comprising two men and two women, in the Mixed Team Championship. A maximum of three teams can represent any one country in each event.

Mark Lichtenhein, Chairman of the Ladies European Tour, said: “This summer’s European Golf Team Championships will be a totally unique event and we are extremely pleased that the men and women will play competitively together for equal prize money.

“As we have seen through the Olympic Games in Rio, the recent Oates Vic Open in Australia and the announcement to have mixed teams in the GolfSixes in the UK, there is a tremendous public appetite to see men and women competing.

“The format is terrific and the fact that the event will be shown throughout Europe via free-to-air television presents an unprecedented opportunity to bring new fans to the game.”

In the UK, the championships will be broadcast through the BBC.
