2018 KIA Classic - Carlsbad, California - Entering Final Round
The final round of the LPGA Tour's 2018 KIA Classic is about to get underway at the Aviara Golf Club, on Sunday 25th March. Lizette Salas (US), In-Kyung Kim and Eun Hee Ji, both from Korea, are tied at No.1 spot on the leaderboard with 11-under-par 205. Very close on 10-under 206 are Sweden's Caroline Hedwall, Taiwan's Wei-Ling Hsu, Christie Kerr and Cindy Lacrosse (both US). Anna Nordqvist is one of a group tied immediately behind them on 9-under 207.
Kerr won the tournament here at Aviara in 2015. As play began on Saturday she had a five stroke lead, with a record breaking score for the second round of 8-under 64. A Saturday double bogey on the par-4 15th following a smash into the trees did nothing to help maintain her lead. By day's end she was a stroke behind the three tied at the top, with a round total of 75.
Kerr was resigned, "I've got to go work on my game a little bit", but nonetheless optimistic with this outlook: "Just got to be grateful I'm only one back with a whole new Sunday."
Salas seemed very close to gaining an outright lead but lost it when she missed two birdie putts on the 16th and 17th holes. She, too, is looking to the final round: "It's been a while since I've been in this position. But I was having fun out there just kind of taking what I could get. Mix of luck and momentum going. A lot of could haves, but I'm not going to dwell on that. Just going to be fortunate to be in this position again and just give it my all tomorrow."
