AT&T Byron Nelson 2021, Round 2: Aussies & more

PGA TOUR 2021 - AT&T Byron Nelson, TPC Craig Ranch, TX:  13-16 May, Day 2

Sam Burns' scorching 62 round is covered here.

Now, for how some of the others played through Round two.

The Aussies

From The West Australian/ AAP:

Australian Marc Leishman made a 69 to go with his opening 66 to be in a tie for 22nd, eight behind Burns.

The Victorian had four birdies with just one bogey that came surprisingly on the short par-four 14th.

His drive ended short of the green and in the bunker from where his next shot missed the green. He then left his chip short before two putting.

Compatriot Rhein Gibson backed up his opening 66 with a 73 for a five-under 139. With the previous day's high scoring, he missed the six-under cut by one along with Jason Day (69).

Cameron Percy (70) just survived the cut and is the only other Australian playing on the weekend.  Read more

Alex Noren

From ProGolfNow, Tim Letcher:

Alex Noren has is making his 104th career start on the PGA Tour this week at the 2021 Byron Nelson. And he’s in position to do something he’s never done before...

Noren finds himself firmly in the mix this week in Dallas. And he’s hoping that this could be the week that he gets that first American win.

Noren had an up-and-down day on Thursday at TPC Craig Ranch. He made nine birdies in his round but was victimized by a pair of bogeys. Still, it was a 7-under par round of 65, which allowed Noren to be in a tie for seventh place through 18 holes.

On Friday, Noren did even better...  Through 36 holes, Noren finds himself in second place, two shots behind Sam Burns. Read more

Lee Westwood

From Yahoo!Sports, Jim Corrigan:

Lee Westwood shot his lowest round on American soil in seven years and then declared the AT&T Byron Nelson “the ideal preparation” for next week’s USPGA Championship.

Westwood’s 64, featuring 10 pars and eight birdies, took the former world No1 to nine-under... Read more

Spieth & Redman

From Golf Digest, Chris Powers:

Jordan Spieth overcomes early struggles, 'short fuse'  ...He's six off the lead at 11 under, which is not an insurmountable hill to climb at this golf course, provided he can sleep in a little on Saturday morning.

Doc Redman recaptures his early-season form   ...He's on pace to post a much better result this week, starting with 64 on Thursday and following it up with a Friday 67, putting him four back of Burns.  Read more
