Augusta National Invites Shubhankar Sharma to the Masters

Shubhankar Sharma will attend this year's Masters at Augusta,  2-8 April 2018

21 year old Shubhankar Sharma already has two European Tour wins, in South Africa and Malaysia, and because of his success at the Joburg Open he will be playing at this year's British Open. His World Golf Ranking is presently 66. Until last November he was virtually unknown in the golf world, ranking outside the top 500.

Although he did not take home the trophy at WGC-Mexico (he tied ninth, after an early lead that took him to tee off in the final round), he has received something of even greater value for his longer term golfing career. The Augusta National Golf Club announced this week that Sharma has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2018 Masters. His attendance at the Masters will mark the first major championship participation of Sharma's career.

Augusta National Chairman's statement:

"Golf is a global game, and throughout our history we have extended invitations to deserving international players not otherwise qualified. As his results have proven, Shubhankar Sharma is a remarkable young player, and we look forward to welcoming him to Augusta National in April."

The 2018 Masters Tournament is scheduled for 2nd - 8th April.
