Aussie Matt Jones qualifies for US Open

Australian golfer Matt Jones will play the US Open at Pebble Beach next month after qualifying through a tournament in Texas.

Australia's Matt Jones will contest the US Open at Pebble Beach after earning a start through a qualifying tournament in Texas.

Jones, 39, is one of 10 players who booked their place after the first of 12 sectional qualifiers at the Northwood Club and Bent Tree.

Currently ranked 90th on the FedExCup rankings, Sydneysider Jones best result so far this season is a tie for fifth at last month's AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas.

Former Masters champion Mike Weir is among the other golfers to qualify on Monday, he heads back to the U.S. Open for the first time in six years.

The US Open returns to Pebble Beach for the sixth time from June 13-16.

The other nine sectional qualifiers in the US are scheduled for June 3.
