2018 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play 21-25 March
The second of four World Golf Championships for 2018 will be held from 21-25 March. The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play will be the 20th WGC Match Play and is held at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas.
The top 64 World Ranked golfers as of mid-March comprise the field. When some of these are unable to compete then their places are filled by the following highest ranked golfers.
Since 2015 the championship starts with pool play, with sixteen groups of four playing round robin matches from Wednesday through Friday. The top 16 players are allocated, one to each group. The rest are divided into three pools, by ranking. One player is randomly selected from each pool to join each of the Match groups.
The winners of each group go on to single elimination in the weekend. On Saturday the round of 16 is held, then the quarter finals. On Sunday are the semi-finals, finals and also a consolation match.
Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm were the final pair for 2017, with Johnson taking out the championship.
The three Australian golfers competing are Jason Day, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith.
24 year old Cameron Smith from Brisbane won last year's Australian PGA Championship. He has also tied at 4th place in the US Open (2015) and in the Australian Open (2017). His group players are Matsuyama, Cantlay and Miyazato.
