BMW PGA Championship - Day Two, McIlroy's Magic

BMW PGA Championship 2018 Round 2 - McIlroy three ahead after a stunning round

During the second round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Rory McIlroy's magic, or the Luck-of-the-Irish, returned and he finished on 7-under 65 with a 12-under total, three strokes ahead of Sebastian Gros (FR) and Sam Horsfield (Eng).

McIlroy's efforts included a nine foot shot at the 9th hole, 25 feet at the 13th and a smashing 40 foot shot at the 15th.

McIlroy's resurgence lit up the match and had others in the game sending cap-tips.

"I'm about to quit golf... I think it's hard to draw off it when it's that good," - from McIlroy's playing partner Alex Noren, who closed with a 62 last year to win the tournament.  He called McIlroy's bogey-free seven birdie game "the best round I've ever seen".

He added,  "It's tough because it's almost like you're trying to play better than you need to when you see that. I really wanted to get the honour and be first on the tee, and then you don't have to hit after that 330-yard driver or 300-yard three-wood."

"I played really well, bogey-free around here.  I think I only missed one green, not by a lot," McIlroy said. He hit birdies on the 4th, 7th and 9th, then four in a row from the 12th.

Tommy Fleetwood shot 66 to finish tied four shots back from the lead. He surged ahead at the end with three birdies on the last three holes. He had four early birdies including a chip-in on the 13th, then hit a bogey on the 15th. He powered on, chipping in another one for birdie on the 16th, and almost made an eagle on the 18th, finishing in great style.
