AT&T Byron Nelson 2018: Leishman Breaks 36 Hole Record & Shares Lead into Final

Marc Leishman's second round 5-under 66 at Byron Nelson meant he went into the weekend on 15-under 127 and has broken the 36 hole tournament record. The previous record of 12-under 128 was set at TPC Four Seasons and was shared by Tiger Woods and four others.

At the end of the third round of the AT&T Byron Nelson Marc Leishman is now tied in the lead with Aaron Wise from the US. Another Aussie, Matt Jones, is next on the board, sharing fourth with American Kevin Na.

Leishman and Wise are on 17-under 196 while Jones and Na are four shots back on 13-under 200. Jimmy walker was up with Jones and Na but a double bogey at the 18th took him back to a tie in 5th with Brian Gay on 12-under 201.

Conditions were changing for the third round of the tournament. The wind started gusting early on and continued throughout the day with speeds of 15-20 mph. The ground was firmer, as noted by Leishman.  He had to reassess which clubs he'd be using.

Leishman began the round in the lead by one shot over Wise. He bogeyed the second hole but went on to hit three birdies.

"I'm really happy with the way I fought back today after a slow start." Leishman said. "I learned a lot out there today. I have to keep driving it well and hole some more putts. If you're not making putts from 10-12 feet, you probably aren't going to win.

"Aaron is playing well, so I'll do my best tomorrow and hopefully that will be enough."

21 year old Wise was in shared second spot at the Wells Fargo Championship on 6th May, two strokes behind Jason Day.

"Just knowing that I've been there and playing as well as a did a few weeks ago will help me in the final round,"  Wise said. "I have a lot of confidence going into tomorrow, and now that I've been there, I think I will have a better chance at it."
