Profile

Prior to achieving Certified PGA Professional status, Mark started in amateur competition, winning more than a dozen "Ivo Whitton" events. In 1994 he came third in the Ivo Whitton averages, behind Australian Open Champion, Steven Allen and in 1998 he finished in third place behind Geoff Ogilvy. In 1998 he won he's biggest event, the Port Phillip invitational, which is a 72 hole event for amateur golfers Australia wide. It was during this time that Mark decided to try and gain his Australian Tour card, narrowly missing out by two shots in 1997.

Mark had just turned twenty-five when he started his Traineeship as a PGA Professional in 2000. During his Traineeship, he gained full sponsorship from Bridgestone after finishing in the top ten of the national averages of his second year. Mark won at least ten times through his Traineeship, along a with top ten finishes in all national events. He had planned to go on tour after the completion of his Traineeship in 2003, when he was lucky enough to have the opportunity to become Club Professional at Goonawarra, Sunbury.

During the past seven years, Mark has completed additional training as a Golf Instructor and Club Fitter, achieving the rating of Certified PGA Professional. Another opportunity came his way in 2006 when he started at the Bacchus Marsh Pro-shop as a contracted PGA Professional. His time at Bacchus Marsh was good and he really enjoyed the new challenges that came with running his own shop.

Any golfer will attest that there is always something that can be improved with their game, and he shares this "pursuit of perfection" in his role as a golf professional. He regularly attends coaching seminars, club fitting updates and other training sessions to keep abreast of the latest developments. It is his passion to teach and help his students improve their game through the application of knowledge, technique and correct fitting of equipment. Mark states "I am excited about my role here at Melton Valley, not only to bring consistent friendly service, but I am very confident I can use my knowledge to help members and public golfers to improve their golf games which will help grow the Club in the future".
