Fleetwood's Eagle Soars at Honda Classic Round 3

Tommy Fleetwood's 140 Yard Eagle at Honda Classic 2018

Tommy Fleetwood began the third round of the 2018 Honda Classic just one shot from the lead. Then at the par-five third hole he stumbled. The third hole has been called the "easiest" on the PGA National's Championship course, but Fleetwood's shot hit the water and he landed a bogey-six.

On to the par-4 fourth, where he holed out from 140 yards in spectacular style. (See vid above.) The eagle-two restored his position and again he was only one shot back from the lead at that time.

At the 13th he made a double bogey, twice landing in the sand, but was able to save par from a bunker at the 15th. At 16 he hit from 185 yards to 13 feet and made the putt for birdie.

Then, on the par-5 18th Fleetwood hit a second eagle, so he finished his round with as many eagles as birdies. Asked about this, he said, "I don't think I've ever — well, I might have done that before, but great finish."

"After 13, made a mess of the hole and you don't have easy holes coming in, so you have to regroup and get what you can.

"As good as a couple of - two make that - eagles, great, and some great up-and-downs, as well. Just that finish, toughest part of the course, finished strong, so really happy."

The leaderboard at the end of the third round has Luke List ahead on 7-under-par, Thomas and Simpson tied on second with 6-under and Fleetwood tied at 4th with Lovemark on 5-under, still only two strokes from the lead.  Alex Noren is immediately back on 6th with 4-under. Woods is on even-par 69 in a tie at 11th.
