Genesis Open 2018 Round One

Genesis Open 2018 Round One

At the close of day one of the Genesis Open the first round had not yet ended. Darkness fell and play was called off with about a dozen golfers still to complete their round. These will continue on Friday morning before Round Two begins.

Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau are presently at the top of the leaderboard, both with 5-under-par 66.

On his return to the Genesis Open Tiger Woods was grouped with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. Woods finished the round on 1-over-par 72, McIlroy on even par 71 and Thomas on 2-under 69.

Three bogeys set McIlroy back but he recovered by shooting a birdie and a 30 foot eagle at the par-5 first hole.

“I bogeyed the two par fives on the back nine, which usually is my bread and butter,” McIlroy said. “But then a nice eagle at the first and played much better on our second nine.”

Thomas hit five birdies.

Tiger Woods' round included five birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey. He ended on 1-over-par 72. He should be teeing off again around 3.00 pm Friday EST.

“I was at one-under early, first hole, and all of a sudden I went double bogey-bogey and I was like, ‘Oh, man, here we go,’” Woods said. “I’ve got to somehow turn this thing around.

“I made really silly bogeys out there, in particular number seven,” Woods said. “It was not very good from the middle of the fairway.

“But overall I thought I hung in there and grinded.”
