Ji Eun-hee Wins 2018 Kia Classic at Aviara Golf Club
South Korea's Ji Eun-hee has taken out the 2018 Kia Classic, two strokes ahead of Lizette Salas and Christie Kerr, both from the US. Ji's final round 5-under par 67 brought her total for the tournament to 16-under, 272.
Ji hit three birdies in succession on the 6th, 7th and 8th holes, then a fourth at the 10th. At that point she was just one stroke ahead. She was then turbo-boosted ahead in the lead by shooting an eagle from 166 yards at the par-three 14th. The ball bounced on the green, then rolled on into the hole.
At the 15th a three putt bogey could have taken her advantage, but then Kerr in turn bogeyed the 17th and Ji maintained her edge. At the last hole her first putt went rolling right passed, landing her another three-putt. However by then it didn't matter, she had already won.
As well as taking the tournament title, Ji also left Aviara with two new cars. A 2019 Kia Sorrento was her prize for acing the 14th and a Kia Stinger is hers as tournament victor.
This is Ji's second win in six months and is her fourth career win. It has lifted her 16 places in World Rankings, to No.22. It has been a long wait for her, requiring determination and perseverance, as her previous win was eight years earlier when she won the US Women's Open (Ref lpga.com).
