David Micheluzzi has again shown why there's a buzz about his golf future with a stunning performance at the Australian amateur championship.

The 22-year-old Victorian compiled a second consecutive eight-under-par round - a course record-equalling 64 at Woodlands - on Wednesday to easily lead the two-round strokeplay stage.

His round, which included a nine-under stretch of seven birdies and an eagle through nine holes, followed a 63 at the Spring Valley course a day earlier.

Micheluzzi had a seven stroke lead after two rounds with New South Welshman Blake Windred the closest challenger after he carded a 65.

Ranked the world's No.7 amateur, Micheluzzi had already made a big impression late last year competing against the tour pros when he followed a runner-up finish at the WA Open with a tie for fifth at the Australian Open.

He had four straight birdie putts lip out before starting his red-hot nine hole stretch when time seemed to race by.

"Some shots I don't remember hitting, I must have been just so into the zone," he said.

Micheluzzi goes into the knockout match play stage as top seed and with a strong determination to go one better after finishing runner-up to Japan's Keita Nakajima in the national championship last year.
