Minjee Lee Wins LPGA Volvik Championship 2018

Minjee Lee Wins LPGA Volvik 2018 on her 22nd birthday

Australian Minjee Lee shot 16-under-par to win the LPGA Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan on her 22nd birthday. A birdie on the final hole gave her a one shot lead over South Korean Kim In-kyung. She finished with 4-under 68 and a tournament total of 16-under 272.

Lee began her final round two shots ahead. A three-putt bogey at 17 (her first bogey in 38 consecutive holes) meant a step back into a tie for the lead with Kim. Kim had birdied four of her first five holes on the back nine, then bogeyed the 15th. She finished off her 67 with a tap-in birdie on the final hole, bringing her tournament total to 15-under 273.

At Travis Pointe’s par-5 18th, Lee’s second shot landed to the right of the green. She chipped to within three feet and made the putt for her fourth LPGA victory.

Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn is in third place. Her round total of 7-under 65 puts her one shot back from Kim, on 14-under 274.

Lee was tied second in this event last year, when it was won by China's Shanshan Feng.

"I've been playing pretty solid the whole year," Lee said afterwards. "It's nice to have a win before the Open."

In February this year Lee won the Oates Victorian Open, for the second time. In 2014 she won as an amateur, this year she won as a professional.
