Mo Martin won the Women's British Open in 2014, winning by one stroke against Shanshan Feng and Suzann Pettersen. In 2018 she is competing in the LPGA Founders Cup and has just completed her first round with 1-under-par 71. After that round she spoke about her present efforts to raise funds for water wells in Zambia, in conjunction with Golf Fore Africa (their video below).

So far she has raised around $16,000 to fund a new well. Later this year she will go there and meet the people in the village who will receive the well.

“Once I learned more about what Betsy was doing and the impact it was making and the amount of people it was affecting, I was all in,” said Martin.  “Just knowing we still have people dying from complications with unclean water is crazy. We have a lot of problems in this world, but this is one we have a solution to.”

In an interview in 2016 Mo Martin spoke of the value of being able to visit different cultures through her golfing career. See video above and excerpts below:

"To pick one thing to take away from my years as a professional?

"Golf, in and of itself has changed my life and taught me so many things.
... Matured me as a person, emotionally, mentally, spiritually.

"I do know that at the end of my career I didn't want to go to all of these countries, all of these amazing places
and just know the hotel and just know the golf course.
So, I make an effort every week to do something cultural, to do something local.
To eat foods that are local to that place, to talk to different people.
I just really try to take advantage of the places we go to and soak up the culture,
because I think that's the 'juice' that not a lot of people are going to get,
and that I am very, very fortunate to have."
