NSW Open 2021 - Round 3: Bryden Mcpherson Leads

Golf Challenge NSW Open 2021 At Concord Golf Club

Round 3: Bryden Macpherson leads, 15-under

At close of the third round of this year's NSW Open Championship, Bryden Macpherson's 6-under, 65 round has him at the top of the leaderboard on 15-under par.  Tied second on 14-under are Jack Thompson and Nathan Barbieri, followed by Dylan Perry on 13-under.

In February Bryden Macpherson took out the Moonah Links Classic, see here. That was his fourth professional win, as described by Golf Australia, here.

From NSW Open - News, Roy Fleming:

The 30-year-old former winner of the British Amateur (2011) started his third round four adrift of overnight leader Michael Sim, but eight birdies and two bogeys for a six-under 66 left him at -15, a shot clear of freshly-minted professional South Australian Jack Thompson who matched his bogey-free six-under round playing in just his third professional event.

“I think the course is getting better,” Macpherson said, referring to the biblical rains Sydney endured earlier in the week.

“We are starting to get the hang of the course, and the guys that are playing well are finding their way around it a little easier.” Full article here

One player of note is 18 year old Elvis Smylie, who is just three strokes off the lead on 12-under, in a tie for fourth. Mark Hayes describes him as "a mental giant in a teen frame" and after reading what Hayes has written, you may well agree with that.

From Hayes intro:

Try to forget what you think you already know about Elvis Smylie.

That he had an albatross and an eagle today at Concord en route to a 64 and a title shot in the Golf Challenge New South Wales Open tomorrow.

That after near cyclonic conditions affected his opening-round 75 at TPS Victoria – as an amateur – two months ago, the lithe left-hander has averaged 67.25 strokes in 12 subsequent rounds on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia. Full article here
