The Masters 2021 Runner-up, Will Zalatoris

The Masters at Augusta National 2021

Will Zalatoris, Runner-up at this year's Masters

If 24 year old Will Zalatoris looks oddly familiar, think Happy Gilmore and his caddy.  Adam Sandler noted the similarity and sent him this message

“Have fun today young man. Mr. Gilmore is watching you and very proud.”

Zalatoris was already there. Engraved on his wedge:  "Mr Gilmore Im your caddy".

From Fox Sports:

Zalatoris had put himself among last year’s top-10 on a US developmental tour. Because of the pandemic, the US Open did away with qualifying for 2020 and invited the top 10 off the secondary circuit, including Zalatoris, who shared sixth at Winged Foot.

The US PGA Tour gave Zalatoris special temporary membership and he was able to jump up the rankings to make the final cutoff to reach the Masters...

...When Zalatoris was eight, he watched Tiger Woods on the Friday of his 2005 Masters victory and dreamed of his own amazing feats at Amen Corner.

“I wanted to be here my entire life. I’m excited to be here. There’s no reason to feel intimidated now. I made it,” Zalatoris said.  Read more here

Matsuyama completed this year's Masters on 10-under par, 278.  Zalatoris was one stroke back on 9-under, 279.

As runner-up Zalatoris will receive more than US $1.2 million and will have his name engraved, along with that of Matsuyama, on the original silver Masters trophy, the one that remains at Augusta and never leaves. He also receives a silver medal and a silver plate.  Similarly, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Corey Conners should each receive crystal awards.
