The Ryder Cup September 2018 - Le Golf National

The Ryder Cup 2018 - The National Golf Club, Paris, 28-30 September

The Ryder Cup is held every two years, hosted alternately by the United States and Europe. The tournament is overseen by both the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, a mix of the PGA European Tour, the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, and the PGA of Europe.  Players in the Ryder Cup, as in the Presidents Cup, receive no prize money. In 2018 the US is the defending champion.

The Ryder Cup is a match play competition between players selected from two teams of twelve. It is held from Friday to Sunday with 28 18-hole matches being played. On Friday and Saturday there are four fourball matches and four foursome matches each day. The captain can select any eight players for each session. On Sunday there are 12 singles matches when all team members play.

Each match is worth one point, so there are 28 points to be won. To keep the Cup the US team need to gain at least 14 points. For Europe to win the cup they will need 14½ points.

The captains of the 2018 Ryder Cup teams are Jim Furyk for the US and Thomas Bjorn for Europe. Furyk holds the record for the lowest score in PGA Tour history, a 58 that he shot in the final round of the Travelers Championship in 2016. Bjorn is the most successful Danish golfer on the European Tour, having won 15 tournaments.

Furyk has selected three vice captains: Steve Stricker, Tiger Woods and Davis Love III. Bjorn has chosen five: Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood and Robert Karlsson.

The 2018 Ryder Cup will be held on the Albatros Course of Le Golf National just outside Paris, from September 28th - 30th.
