Valspar Championship 2021 - Copperhead Golf Course: Who is in the field, & more

PGA TOUR 2021 - The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook GC, April 29 - May 2

Valspar Championship 2021

Defending champion is Paul Casey who won in both 2018 and '19, and winner of the Dubai Desert Classic in January.  Australian John Senden won this tournament in 2014. Now in 2021 four Aussies are competing:  Aaron Baddeley, Rhein Gibson, Cameron Davis and  Cameron Percy.

Two players who are likely to be particularly fired up to take the title are Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel. The South Africans have both done well on the Copperhead Course in other years. Oosthuizen was a runner up in 2019 and Schwartzel won the tournament in 2016.

After the final 'shoot out' at the Zurich Classic last Sunday both are now likely to want to torch the Snake Pit, to de-fang the Copperhead and take the title.

From Adam Stanley, The First Look:

Paul Casey became the first golfer since the event’s inception in 2000 to defend his title. He won by one shot in 2018 over Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed, and won by the same margin – this time over Jason Kokrak and Louis Oosthuizen – in 2019.

Casey, who hadn’t won the PGA TOUR in nine seasons before his 2018 win in Tampa, was steadier than anyone through a tough week in 2019 at the Copperhead Course. His 1-over 72 on Sunday was good enough, as he survived a hard exam at Innisbrook better than anyone, punctuated with a par from the fairway bunker on the 72nd hole.
