Webb Simpson Wins The Players Championship 2018
Webb Simpson has won the 2018 Players Championship by four strokes, with a final tally of 18-under 270. Tied second with 14-under 274 are Xander Schauffele, Charl Schwartzel and Jimmy Walker. Jason Day and Jason Dufner are a shot behind them on 13-under 275. Tiger Woods and Adam Scott are two shots back again, tied at 11th in a group of six on 11-under 277.
This is Simpson's 5th PGA Title win, and his first since 2013 at Las Vegas. His final round one-over-par 73 was enough to take the Championship.
Simpson has dedicated the win to his mother, who was watching his game on tv. This was her first Mother’s Day without her husband, Simpson’s father Sam, who died in November at age 74.
“I thought about her a lot today, and I knew she was watching every shot,” Webb Simpson said. “It was for her, for sure.”
During this fourth round Tiger Woods mounted a challenge for the lead. Six birdies through the first 12 holes brought him to 14-under. Simpson's bogey on the 10th meant Woods birdie on the 12th brought him to within four shots of the lead. Four shots behind and six holes to play...
For a brief time a resurgent win for Woods seemed possible. Then a bogey on the par-4 14th rolled back any hope he had of that. He made no more birdies and the dreaded 17th served up a double bogey. Nevertheless his world ranking has risen from 92 at the start of the week to 80.
Jason Day maintains his spot at World No. 7 while Adam Scott rises from 71 to 65.
