2018 WGC-Dell, Bubba Watson Wins

2018 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Final and Consolation Rounds

Bubba Watson has beaten Kevin Kisner 7 & 6 to take out the 2018 WGC-Dell Tech Championship. It is the "largest margin of victory in the championship final since 2008, when Tiger Woods beat Stewart Cink 8 & 7"  - pgatour.com.  This is Watson's second World Golf Championships title, having won the WGC-HSBC Champions in November 2014.

Kisner had powered through the match to the final. Golfers that he beat out along way include Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Ian Poulter and Alex Noren. One of Noren's qualities is his quiet tenacity and the match with him may have worn Kisner down. It took 19 holes to beat Noren in the semi-final that morning and now, during the final round, Kisner's fire was burning low. He hit three early bogeys then another on the seventh.

Kisner's summation: "Long week. A little tired, probably. Lose some legs, and just didn't have it. And finally made a few good swings coming in, but those were too little, too late."

Watson showed understanding:  "That gruelling match that he had this morning, extra holes, you could just tell, the energy wasn't there," Watson said. "The drive and the competition was there, but he was just exhausted. And obviously for me it works out great for me, but for him, he had a great week, but obviously buried the first hole. I buried that hole a couple of times this week. Getting off to a quick start like that just puts pressure on anybody."

In the Consolation final Alex Noren beat Justin Thomas 5 & 3, to achieve third place in the tournament.
