Day Two: Max Homa leads, breaks course record (even with two bogeys)

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Max Homa was aware of the course record at Olympia Fields, and not just because of how well he was playing Friday in the BMW Championship. He happened to see a video board just as it flashed a message that Chris Kirk was challenging the course record of 63.
“Just randomly saw that today, and then I had to think about it,” Homa said.
Homa broke the record even with two bogeys, making 10 birdies in his round of 8-under 62 that gave him a two-shot lead over Kirk (66) going into the weekend. Read more

Max Homa fired a second-round 62 to move two clear of Chris Kirk at the BMW Championship; Matt Fitzpatrick three back with Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler five behind.
Rory McIlroy was unable to build on his fast start to the BMW Championship as Max Homa opened a two-shot halfway lead over Chris Kirk in Illinois.
McIlroy held a share of the lead after the opening day and made a strong start to round two by rolling in from 12 feet at the third, with the reigning FedExCup champion holing from 10 feet to save par at the seventh as he reached the turn in 34. Read more

Max Homa racked up 10 birdies, fired an 8-under-par 62 and grabbed the lead at the BMW Championship on Friday at Olympia Fields (Ill) Country Club.
Homa, who broke the course record for PGA Tour and major championship events, piled up six of his birdies on the back nine to get to 10-under 130 for the event. Read more
