In August 2020, at age 23, Collin Morikawa became the youngest winner of the PGA Championship since Tiger Woods. With 13-under par he was two strokes ahead of Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey who tied 2nd.
Now at the 2021 Tournament of of Champions his 8-under 65 round keeps him in that group who are hard on the heels of Round 2 leader Harris English. The others in that group are Justin Thomas, Ryan Palmer and Daniel Berger, and they had stayed close through much of the round.
In a 'Friday Flash' the interviewer had said, "Daniel talked about how you guys were having fun out there, kind of joking and kind of feeding off each other... When you're playing like that with someone who's also playing well, does that feed the way you can continue to play well?"
Collin: "Absolutely. We were just kind of making birdie one after another, and you know, it helps."
This is his second time competing on the Plantation Course, and playing here in such calm conditions was a little different. As others have also noted, the absence of strong winds was a factor in everyone's game through Round 2, and the game is very likely to change if or when the winds return.
