In the video above, Ryan Lavner tells how Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour arrived at the decision to close down the tournament at TPC Sawgrass,  "as COVID-19 mushroomed into a full-blown pandemic" in March 2020. 

As written elsewhere, the first round of the Players Championship had just been completed.  

On the PGA TOUR site Cameron Morfit also describes events leading up to the cancellation, including responses of players, organisers, fans and others, and the effects it had on them.
