Hero Open, Day Two: Sean Crocker keeps lead; Ferguson & Nienaber re-set course record

DP World Tour 2022, Hero Open, Fairmont St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, 28-31 July: Day 2

Sean Crocker leads ahead of Jamieson; 61 rounds by Ferguson and Nienaber re-set course record

From DP World Tour News:

Sean Crocker maintained his narrow one-shot lead after following up Thursday's 63 with a flawless 66 on day two of the 2022 Hero Open.

On another day of impressive scoring at Fairmont St Andrews, Crocker made the most of favourable morning conditions to fire six birdies - three on each side of the course - and get to 15 under par.

And although the course record he had set in the first round was broken by both his playing partner Ewen Ferguson and afternoon starter Wilco Nienaber, who produced bogey-free 61s on Friday, no-one was able to catch Crocker at the summit.  Read more

From ESPN, by AP:

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- American golfer Sean Crocker retained his 1-stroke lead at the Hero Open after shooting 6-under 66 in the second round of the European tour event on Friday.

From Sky Sports:

Crocker's playing partner Ewen Ferguson produced a stunning round of 61 to rise more than 120 places - a day after the American had fired 63 to earn himself the lead.

American Sean Crocker remains the man to catch in the Hero Open, despite having his day-old course record broken by playing partner and temporary housemate Ewen Ferguson.

Crocker added a 66 to his opening 63 at Fairmont St Andrews for a halfway total of 15 under par and a one-shot lead over Scott Jamieson, who fired eight birdies in a flawless 64 and has not dropped a shot over the first two days.  Read more

From The Scotsman, by Martin Dempster:

You can always rely on a caddie to tell it straight. “The condition of these greens mean you can get your tattie rolling on them,” declared one looper of the putting surfaces for the Hero Open on the Torrance Course at Fairmont St Andrews.

Ewen Ferguson’s ‘tattie’ hadn’t been rolling well at all recently. In fact, he’d putted so poorly in an opening 73 on Thursday that it left him in a “bad mood”, the extent of which was reflected by him failing to reply to a text from his dad, Mark.

Ferguson, who landed his maiden DP World Tour triumph in the Qatar Masters earlier in the year, woke up on Friday not feeling confident about even being around for the weekend on the Fife coast but talk about being transformed overnight.  Read more
