Honda Classic 2018 - Tiger's Quiet Roar
When Tiger Woods finished his rounds at Torrey Pines he was asked about his game, how he felt about the way it was going. He sounded less than hopeful then, as he described his final round as "Gross". He said he was "really struggling trying to find anything that was the resemblance of a golf swing".
After his spinal fusion surgery he had to accept new limits as to what he is able to do. "Some of my go-to shots aren’t there. Some of my shots I like to hit under certain circumstances aren’t there, either.”
Now, less than a month later and following straight on from the Genesis Open, despite missing the cut there Woods' outlook has changed.
“I’m right where I can win a golf tournament,” he said at the end of the second round of the Honda Classic. “You know, four [strokes] back on this golf course with 36 holes to go, I mean anybody can win this golf tournament right now. It’s wide open.”
Regardless of whether or not he were to take out the tournament, Tiger Woods has already won back his signature optimism, enthusiasm and unreserved love of the game.
At the end of the second round of the 2018 Honda Classic Jamie Lovemark and Luke List are tied at the top and yes, just four strokes ahead of Woods who is on 141 and tied at 14th. The same fierce winds of the previous day continued to wreak havoc to golfers' intentions on the course, changing the trajectory of airborne shots and putts wherever possible.
For the first 14 holes Woods was in close contention for the lead. Then came the Bear Trap, holes 15, 16 and 17. Woods hit the water and made two consecutive bogeys on 15 and 16. On 17 he found his way out with a birdie. He was in no way the only one to hit the water as 72 golf balls ended up there by the end of the Honda Classic second round.
