Billy Horschel fires 53-foot eagle putt to win Memorial by four shots

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Billy Horschel ended any doubt about his victory at Muirfield Village with an eagle putt from one end of the green to the other on the 15th hole, sending him to a four-shot victory Sunday at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

Horschel was staked to a five-shot lead at the start of a sun-soaked final round and no one ever got closer than two shots. He closed with an even-par 72.  Read more

A timely eagle helped Billy Horschel claim his seventh PGA Tour title in the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.

Horschel took a five-shot lead into the final round, but saw his advantage reduced to two for the second time when playing partner Aaron Wise two-putted the par-five 15th for his fourth birdie of the day.

Billy Horschel survived the brutal Muirfield Village examination to win the Memorial by four shots from Aaron Wise and capture his seventh PGA Tour title. 

On a day dominated by high scores, Horschel kept his cool and more than earned his winning handshake with 18-time Major champion and tournament host Jack Nicklaus, mixing three bogies with a birdie and an eagle in a level-par 72 to go with rounds 70, 68 and 65 for a 275 total to claim the $2.16 million top prize.  Read more

Billy Horschel won the Memorial Tournament by four shots on Sunday, capping victory with a huge 53-foot eagle putt on the 15th.

The American had led by five shots overnight but saw that lead reduced to two by playing partner Aaron Wise before his clutch eagle putt.

That helped Horschel to a level-par final round, finishing on 13 under.

Wise came second, with defending champion Patrick Cantlay and Joaquin Niemann two shots further back.  Read more
