John Daly's Claret Jug - Again For Sale

In March, 2016 John Daly's Claret Jug appeared for sale on Green Jacket Auctions.  Bidding was at $10,000 when a tweet came through from Daly saying that he still had his Claret Jug and thought it was going to be donated to St Andrews Museum.  Green Jacket Auctions withdrew the sale offer.

Now, Heritage Auctions has offered it for sale, stressing that  "there is no ownership controversy today and that this is the one and only John Daly Claret Jug, available to the public".  [Ref Golf Digest]

Current bidding is around $30,000. The auction has set a value on the Jug of $100,000.  Bidding will close on 24th February.

The winner of the British Open Championship takes home the original Claret Jug for one year, and can buy replicas to keep.

In 1995 John Daly seemed to appear out of nowhere to take out the 1995 British Open at St Andrews. 1995 was also the first year Tiger Woods played in this tournament. Woods was still at college. He tied at 68th but went on to win the next two Opens on the Old Course.

In the video above, former champions of The Open such as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Rory McIlroy, Greg Norman and more share what the Claret Jug means to them.

The video below covers the history of the Claret Jug.
