LPGA Tour Opener Cut Back by Covid

Top Aussies Hannah Green and Minjee Lee will both miss the LPGA Tour Opener for 2021. That event is the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions at Lake Buena Vista, Florida from January 21-24, 2021.

Hannah and Minjee are not the only players who won't be there.  South Korea's Jin Young Ko, Sei Young Kim and Inbee Park, presently the top three world ranking players, will be absent, as will Lydia Ko from NZ,  Japan's Nasa Hataoka,  Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn from Thailand, and So Yeon Ryu and Michelle Wie West who are also from South Korea.

Hannah referred to the possibility of this, of her own decision to stay at home, in the interview she gave after the 2020 CME Group Tour Championship in December (video above).

Quarantine requirements that now govern international travel are as much a factor in the players' decisions as concerns around the pandemic itself.

"I don't think I'm going to make it back in time after I do a couple of weeks in quarantine. It's just not going to be I think long enough for me."  ~ Inbee Park, when asked about this after the CME.

Defending champion is Gaby Lopez of Mexico and she has said she will be attending.
