Patrick Cantlay successfully defends title at BMW Championship & is ready to defend FedEx Cup

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Patrick Cantlay won another thriller Sunday in the BMW Championship, getting a great bounce on the 17th hole that set up a short birdie and led to a 2-under 69 and a one-shot victory over Scott Stallings.

Cantlay became the first player to win the BMW Championship back-to-back since the FedExCup began in 2007. This was on a different course and he didn't have to go six playoff holes. He also doesn't have the FedExCup lead going to the finale next week at East Lake.  Read more

Lightning has struck twice for Patrick Cantlay as the American won the BMW Championship for the second successive year to leave him in a strong position to defend his FedEx Cup title.

Cantlay went into the final round at Wilmington Country Club with a one-shot lead over Scott Stallings and Xander Schauffele, and got off to a solid if unspectacular start with three pars to start the day. American Patrick Cantlay became the first player to successfully defend a tournament in the FedEx Cup post-season by retaining the BMW Championship.

A final-round 69 at Wilmington secured a one-shot victory for the world number four over compatriot Scott Stallings. He birdied 17 and although he found sand off the 18th tee, he scrambled to make a tap-in par for a 14-under total...

Cantlay's triumph means he will start next week's season-ending Tour Championship in second place in the FedEx Cup standings.  Read more
