Editor's note (Tuesday, Aug. 23): Will Zalatoris withdrew Tuesday due to a back injury. If all 29 players complete 72 holes, he will finish 30th. The 30th position will receive $500,000 FedExCup bonus money. No one else’s Starting Strokes will be affected with his WD (i.e. no one will be at -7).
For some players, an appearance in Atlanta is an annual appointment. For others, it’s a career-changing week when they finally crack the top 30 to join the elite field for the season finale. Read more

As has become an annual tradition since the quasi-handicap format was brought into play, this week will be full of mixed opinions on the PGA Tour’s season finale, the Tour Championship as it descends on Atlanta.
An attempt to reward season long play and Playoffs performance in the form of a FedExCup winner, the 30 player event sees the top seed start at 10-under with the remaining 29 golfers in a staggered start based on their position. Read more

And just like that, the PGA Tour season finale is upon us, with the 30 leading contenders in the FedEx Cup set to tee it up at the oldest course in Atlanta and the home of Bobby Jones, East Lake Golf Club.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler returned to the summit of the FedEx Cup standings courtesy of a T3 finish at the BMW Championship. In the unique scoring format, the Masters champion will tee it up at the Tour Championship at 10-under-par and a two stroke lead from his nearest competitor.
