R&A Welcome Niall Horan and Modest!Golf, to bring younger people into golf.

Irishman Niall Horan is a musician and ardent golfer. The singer and songwriter became widely known as a member of One Direction. His first solo album, Flicker, was released in 2017.

Niall says he started playing golf when he was "about five or six" and joined his first club when he was "twelve or thirteen".

In 2015 at The Masters Par 3 event Niall caddied for Rory McIlroy. In return, Rory had to sing on stage at a One Direction concert. Ref: Bleacher Report.  In 2016 when Rory McIlroy was host at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, he brought Niall in to play in the pro-am. A write-up of that is at Golf Digest.  Niall joined Rory at the Dubai Pro-Am again in 2018.

In 2016 Niall founded Modest!Golf, together with with Mark McDonnell and Ian Watts. The first golfer that the company signed was Italian Guido Migliozzi who went on to win a European Tour event, the Kenya Open, in 2019.

The R&A have now appointed Modest!Golf to design and develop new grassroots programs aimed at drawing more young players into golf.

The idea is to create “fun and accessible formats” of the game that are “more in tune with how today’s generation uses its leisure time,” and to "present the sport in a more positive light to new audiences and challenge some of the more unhelpful perceptions that exist about golf”.  See The Scotsman.

And from the Irish Golf Desk,

Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at The R&A, said:

“Modest! Golf has a wealth of expertise and insight from the entertainment and sports industries that will be combined with our experience of developing golf around the world to establish exciting new initiatives aimed at reaching new audiences and inspiring more young people into playing golf with their family and friends."
