Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship 2021 - Round One
Rory McIlroy has smashed through his lowest ever round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship with an 8-under par 64. He is leading the field ahead of England's Tyrrell Hatton who is a stoke behind on 65.
McIlroy delivered eight birdies on his bogey free round. Hatton also avoided any bogeys, and eagles on the 10th and 18th were followed by three birdies.
Fabrizio Zanotti from Paraguay is a stroke back on 66, one shot ahead of Frenchman Romain Langasque and Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello who are tied fourth.
However, the round was suspended yesterday evening due to fading light. Heavy fog in the morning meant that there had been a delay of nearly three hours. The round is due to re-start at 7.40 am local time Friday.
McIlroy "made the round look easy": GolfWorld
McIlroy's renewed zeal, energy and confidence may in part at least, be attributed to time he spent in 2020 with Butch Harmon. As other golfers have done during that year-that-was, he called on the master teacher for advice on his swing. More on that here.
31 year old McIlroy became a father in August 2020.
