Byron Bay Golf Club

A par 72 18 hole championship course famous for its natural beauty and relaxed focus, the course is located just five miles from the town's main street. It has just had festivities marking 60 years, having started in 1957 and the current front nine holes opening the following year. Being a coastal course the wind strength plays an integral role in how easy or difficult the course plays. The superb standard of the golf club is renowned which is the reason why golfers return again and again. The stunning arrangement is pristine and the putting surfaces are firm and extremely well exhibited, the holes run in both directions giving you plenty to think about.
It will challenge and demand your full attention or else derail your round on the way to the clubhouse.

A beachside town located in the far - northeastern corner of NSW, it is 772 kilometres north of Sydney and 165 kilometres of Brisbane.
Cape Byron a headland adjoining to the town is the easternmost point of mainland Australia, it has a population of over 5,000 and lies within the Byron Shire.
The first industry was logging and then gold mining, the first jetty was built in 1886 and houses the iconic Byron Bay lighthouse which was built in 1901.
An oceanway runs from the centre of the town to enable visitors to walk or cycle to the lighthouse.
The local Aboriginal name Cavvanbah means meeting place. Lieutenant James Cook named it Cape Byron after the naval officer John Byron who circumnavigated the world and was the Grandfather of the poet Lord byron .

The first hole is raised which lets you see ahead and several of the holes have ocean views and stunning landscapes. The signature par 5 4th hole is demanding but gratifying when you see the astounding views that reach all the way to the ocean over the tops of the trees that mark the fairway. Water to the left and right with bunkers that nearly surround the green, the area includes three sections that require a wedge approach and can easily take more than two putts just to find the green. The winding 10th hole needs a precise tee shot to miss the water straight ahead and the practise fairway to the right.

The flagship event on the tour is the Australian PGA Seniors Championship, played each December at Byron Bay.
Featuring professional golfers aged 50 and over it includes winners - Wayne Grady ( US PGA), Ian Baker-Finch ( The Open ) along with Australian golfing legends such as Roger Davis, Peter Fowler, Michael Harwood, Michael Clayton and Peter Senior.

The clubhouse has recently been renovated and sits above the 4th green and can be seen from much of the course.

The course is cared for by Shaun Cross, in 2014 he won the acclaimed AGCSA Excellence in golf course management and is exemplary in the upkeep of the course.
