Course

The golf course is renowned for its presentation and is generally regarded as one of the best and most picturesque courses in the area. Construction over the last couple of years of five new holes has provided the course with character, and although the course is relatively flat, the tree lined fairways, water hazards and many bunkers make for a challenging round of golf.

Hole 1

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 326 m

The first hole is characterised by a very narrow tree-lined fairway. A large shallow bunker guards the left had side of the green. The green is also very narrow with a pronounced slope from front to back. There is a premium on accuracy from the tee. Difficult to get up and down from left of the green.

Hole 2

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 322 m

Slight dog-leg to the left. Fairway narrows at about 230metres between a fairway bunker and mounds. Generous green sloping left to right with a distinct step.

Hole 3

Black

  • Par: 5
  • Distance: 476 m

Slight dog leg to left off the tee. A dam catches many drives pushed to the right. Very long hitters can get home in two, but it’s a gamble. The green is strongly bunkered and there is a pond close to the green which juts out onto the right hand side of the fairway. The approach to the green between the pond and a large mound is very narrow. The green is very narrow at the front and rises in a steep tier to a wide but shallow rear. Difficult to hold a shot on the top tier. A very challenging hole, particularly into a north-easter.

Hole 4

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 392 m

A very strong hole, particularly into a westerly wind. Generous fairway with a slight dogleg to right. The dogleg is guarded by a high, heavily grassed mound. Large green, with pronounced slope back to front. Very difficult pin position front right.

Hole 5

Black

  • Par: 3
  • Distance: 142 m

Heavily bunkered, narrow elevated green. Green slopes into centre from both sides. Very difficult to get up and down from either side of green, especially if the pin is tucked on the same side of the errant shot.

Hole 6

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 282 m

A very attractive short hole. Long hitters can reach the elevated green. However, the shot is fraught with danger. The green is heavily bunkered. There is a pond short and right and a drain immediately over the back of the green. Creeks on either side of the fairway and a huge shallow bunker on the right add to the interest of the hole. A small, sharply tiered green, which sits at about 30 degrees to the line of play, also adds to the interst of the hole.

Hole 7

Black

  • Par: 3
  • Distance: 138 m

Short Par 3. Bunkers short at right. Sharp slope left of green feeds errant shots into a creek adjacent to green. Large green with significant slop front to back

Hole 8

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 380 m

Slight dog leg to right with two fairway bunkers around 180-240 metres. Narrow entrance to green with large bunker short at right of green. Generous green sloping front to back with some undulations.

Hole 9

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 342 m

This hole is characterised by a narrow fairway with an out-of-bounds fence immediately to the right. A line of large fig trees does provide some protection. Shots angled to the left away from the fence can easily run into a line of trees. It is a daunting tee shot for anyone with a good card in their pocket, especially with a strong north-easter blowing. The green is small and located on top of an old dune right in front of the clubhouse, often making judgement of an approach shot quite tricky.

Hole 10

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 385 m

A difficult hole, particularly into a north-east sea breeze. Protected the length of its right side by an out-of-bounds fence and two fairway bunkers. The slightly dog-legged right fairway drops away past a bunker on the left and rises agin to an elevated green protected on the left side by a pine tree and bunker. Pin positions to the left require a precise approach shot  and those on the right an approach shot or putt across a step in the green.

Hole 11

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 362 m

Longer hitters must avoid a dam on the left side of the narrow fairway on a driving length. The green is large and protected by a large bunker on the right side. A pronounced mound running front to back provides significant putting challenges. A precise approach shot is needed which keeps the ball below the hole, if the hole is located front left.

Hole 12

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 353 m

An attractive hole requiring a drive over a large dam to a generous fairway. The green is small and guarded by a bunker on either side. Again, a precise approach shot is required to find the green. It is very difficult to get up and down from either side or from through the green.

Hole 13

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 387 m

The hole doglegs right through a narrow funnel of trees. Narrow creeks can catch errant drives on either side, but particularly the right. The hole is characterised by a very small green which is typical of the older greens on the course. Pin point accuracy is required to get on the regulation. If the green is missed to the left, it is very difficult to get up and down. No bunkers.

Hole 14

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 364 m

A dogleg to the left requires precise placement of the tee shot. A creek guards the left hand side and a dam catches shots hit to the right. A large tree on the dogleg makes it difficult to hit the green if the drive has been hit down the left hand edge of the fairway. The green is long but quite narrow. A drawn tee shot to the right centre of the fairway is ideal. It is easy for long hitters to hit through the fairway - a virtual guarantee of a dropped shot. A very demanding hole.

Hole 15

Black

  • Par: 3
  • Distance: 185 m

Long par 3. Slight undulations roll up to a medium sized green with significant slopes from front to back and back left to right that will provide plenty of putting challenges. Large strategically placed bunker guards the right side.

Hole 16

Black

  • Par: 5
  • Distance: 469 m

The tee shot is through a narrow chute to a fairway which curves to the right. Accuracy is essential. Long hitters can cut the corners, but there is a dam and an internal out-of-bounds to negotiate on the right. The smallish green is well protected by bunkers and tucked in behind a stand of she-oaks. Shorter hitters need to play up the fairway and then hit a short pitch to a pin often located immediately behind a bunker. A very precise shot is needed to get close.

Hole 17

Black

  • Par: 4
  • Distance: 327 m

A short but demanding hole with a strong premium on accuracy from the tee. Large trees on either side of the end of the tee form a narrow chute which must be negotiated. Many golfers use irons or fairway woods off the tee to improve chances of a shot to the green, which is large but strongly bunkered. Tee shots hit to the right of the fairway generally result in a dropped shot. Some pin positions are extremely difficult to get at.

Hole 18

Black

  • Par: 3
  • Distance: 149 m

One of the best holes on the course. The beautifully designed small green sits at an angle to the line of play and presents an array of different pin positions which test putting skills. It is hard to get up and down, particularly from the left hand side. Two strategically placed bunkers guard the green. A very difficult challenge into a southerly wind.
